This piece by Ziyi Wang was on view in “In Solidarity: SVA Celebrates Its Asian and Asian American Communities” in spring 2021. Wang explains: “This artwork is about Asian culture and community, and it’s a representation of Asian dreams. The character in the middle is an ancient Chinese girl. Many colorful balls hang from the ceiling, representing different people’s dreams for the future. They also show that the world should be colorful and should have people with different skin colors. This artwork is a wish for Asian discrimination to disappear.” Tang and many of the other student-artists in the exhibition created work to celebrate their Asian origins and culture, vividly illustrating that inclusion and diversity are not just words, but the hallmarks of SVA and the bedrock of American society.
