The Head Hi Lamp Show is an exhibition celebrating the joy of light with a curated presentation of lighting objects selected through an international open call. Since its inception in 2019, the Head Hi Lamp Show has become a global platform for collective participation and experimentation with light, design, and materials. This special anniversary edition, which received over 300 international submissions in its open call, will be held for the first time at an offsite location – 102 Franklin in Tribeca – from May 17–19, during NYCxDESIGN Festival.
More about the Open Call: Each year, Head Hi, an organization dedicated to art, design and cultural programming, warmly invites artists, designers, collectors, and craftspeople of all levels to submit their unique lamp creations for this annual tradition. Organized by Head Hi founders—curator Alexandra Hodkowski and artist Alvaro Alcocer—the selection of lamps chosen for the display embraces a diverse range of backgrounds, skill levels, concepts, and materials, with lamps available for sale at various price points. This year’s show features 54 designers from New York, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Texas, Illinois and internationally from Argentina, Canada, China, France, England, Italy, Turkey and Vietnam.
The show is characterized by a celebratory, experimental, and participatory approach to curating contemporary design. This dynamic yet inclusive spirit has evolved throughout every edition, cementing the lamp show’s status as a sensation in New York’s design world. Since its debut edition, the recurring exhibition has featured nearly 200 personality-packed fixtures made by creators from across the globe.
