Puerto Rican women in design: process, challenges and metaphors
A panel featuring five Puerto Rican women from diverse design fields will engage in a comprehensive discussion about their professional journeys and design methodologies. The conversation will focus on the profound impact of their Puerto Rican identity on their approach to design. The panelists, including members of Modo Consciente, Latinos in Design and the Puerto Rican diaspora, will openly delve into the distinctive challenges inherent in designing from an island perspective: specifically, a US territory. This includes navigating the intricacies of decision-making regarding relocation and the interplay of identity within their creative processes. By recounting personal narratives, the panel seeks to shed light on how cultural exchange between the diaspora and island-based designers has molded their design language, contributing to a sophisticated and nuanced outlook within the broader global design sphere.
