Join us as cherished friends of the late Laura de Santillana for the unveiling of “Laura de Santillana: Echos of Her Gaze” at Ippodo Gallery, an exhibition honoring her profound affinity for Japanese architectural elements. Laura’s inspiration drew from the elegance of fusuma sliding doors, byobu folding screens, tatami floor mats, shoji-washi paper windows, and the traditions of Kimono.
Laura’s most precious and exquisite works are on view in this special memorial exhibition at Ippodo Gallery’s UES location, evoking her memories and passion for Japan.
Two rooms, echoing Laura’s impressions of Japan, are comprised of vibrant and luminous glass tablets—reminiscent of Tokyo’s neon lights and energetic atmosphere—and delicate, translucent pieces embedded with gold leaf and other metals that reflect the serenity of Kyoto, which is known for washi paper and textiles.
Please join us for the opening reception with Laura’s friends and family on May 15, from 5 – 8 PM.
Open Daily May 16th – May 22nd 11AM – 6PM
