Each year, an estimated 250,000 birds are killed after colliding with buildings in New York City. Local Law 15 was enacted in 2020 to mitigate this issue.
As the most comprehensive bird-friendly building legislation in the U.S., the measure requires all new construction and significant renovations built in New York City beginning in January 2021 to use bird-friendly materials. Join us for a discussion on the findings and lessons learned from the initial years of Local Law 15’s implementation, as well as prior and related work, exploring projects that have successfully incorporated bird-safe materials, the legislation’s impacts on local and migratory bird populations, and the development of new bird-friendly building materials. Join Daniel Piselli, Director of Sustainability at FXCollaborative; Dustin Partridge, Director of Conservation and Science, at New York City Audubon; Florian Batik, Director Region North America at Arcon (Manufacturer of Ornilux); and a representative from National Window Film (Manufacturer of Bird Divert) to discuss this important issue from the architectural, conservation, and materials and manufacturing perspectives.
