At a time shaped by AI and automation, a counter-movement toward IRL experiences is emerging. This session invites participants to explore making as both expression and experience—where design becomes physical, collaborative, and something you can hold.
At a time when culture is increasingly shaped by AI and automation, a quieter counter-movement is emerging that leans into IRL experiences. What does it mean to design for slowness and tactility in a world optimized for speed? Across cities, we’re seeing a shift: digital detoxes, design workshops, journaling sessions. According to Eventbrite, craft-based events surged in 2024, with a 44% increase in crochet workshops and 34% growth in jewelry-making, alongside rising interest in other hands-on practices.
As designers, we believe the future lies not just in making, but in curation and world-building. How can we create spaces that reframe craft as both expression and experience?
Part workshop, part experiment, this experience invites attendees to step away from the screen and into a tactile, collaborative process—where making becomes a way of thinking, and design becomes something you can hold.
