Field Trip is a visual love letter to Blu Dot’s hometown of Minneapolis, seen through one of their most beloved designs, the Field Lounge Chair. Explore a gallery installation of documentary photography by Alec Soth protégé Galen Fletcher, see the chair in new finishes, and take home a limited-edition zine.
Blu Dot presents Field Trip, an exhibition that celebrates Minneapolis through the lens of one of their most beloved designs, the Field Lounge Chair. Conceived as a love letter to Blu Dot’s hometown, the project captures the chair across more than twenty distinctive locations throughout the Twin Cities, pairing thoughtful design with a strong sense of place. Photographed by Alec Soth protégé Galen Fletcher in the depths of winter, a season that brings out the true character of the city’s northerners, Field Trip explores a wide-ranging and unexpected cross-section of Minneapolis. From the caves behind Minnehaha Falls to the energy of 1st Avenue, and neighborhood staples like Kathy’s Live Bait to cultural institutions such as the Walker Art Center, the series reflects a city that is creative, diverse, unpretentious, and rich in personality. The result is a portrait of Minneapolis not just as a backdrop, but as an active influence shaping Blu Dot’s approach to design. The exhibition brings the story to life in a gallery format and showcases prints from the series alongside new finishes of the Field Lounge Chair. Everyone’s invited to the opening party on May 15 and to take home a limited-edition Field Trip zine. Together, the exhibition, zine, and opening event highlight Blu Dot’s roots while inviting a broader audience to engage with Minneapolis as a vibrant and inspiring creative hub—a place where real design happens.
