Roca will present an exhibition featuring the work of Verita Mijelshon, a Brooklyn-based glass studio founded by architect and designer Veronica Mijelshon. Working primarily in flame-worked borosilicate, the studio creates jewelry and functional objects that explore form, materiality, and process through a contemporary craft lens.
Roca presents an exhibition of Verita Mijelshon, a woman-owned jewelry brand founded and operated by Veronica Mijelshon. Specializing in handcrafted glass statement pieces, the brand blurs the boundaries between adornment and sculpture. Working primarily with borosilicate glass through flame-working techniques including glassblowing and sculpting in the flame shop Mijelshon transforms molten material into intricate, expressive forms. Each piece is individually designed and created by hand, reflecting a meticulous process that balances technical precision with artistic intuition. Her bold necklaces and rings are distinguished by vibrant color palettes and complex internal patterns that emerge through the careful manipulation of heat and movement. Often paired with industrial rubber cords, the luminous glass elements create compelling contrasts in texture and structure, soft against rigid, matte against gloss, tension against fluidity. These deliberate juxtapositions amplify the sculptural quality of the work while maintaining its wearability.
Verita Mijelshon defines jewelry as wearable poetry and intimate sculptures that hold memory, beauty, and meaning. Each piece is conceived as an offering, shaped by flame and guided by form, waiting to resonate with its wearer. The work invites personal dialogue, encouraging the body to become both site and participant in the artwork’s expression. Trained as an architect, Mijelshon approaches jewelry as a language of structure and emotion. Her architectural background informs her sensitivity to proportion, balance, and spatial relationships, while her passion for distinctive design drives a fearless exploration of color and gesture. As a solo creator, she brings care, discipline, and a deeply personal commitment to every stage of production, from initial concept to final polish. This hands-on practice ensures that each work carries both material integrity and emotional intention. Mijelshon is an alumna of the Bead Project at UrbanGlass and was awarded a full-scholarship residency at the Corning Museum of Glass in 2023. In 2025, she was selected as a mentor for the UrbanGlass Bead Project Mentorship Program and completed the Artist as Entrepreneur Program at the New York Foundation for the Arts in partnership with Powerhouse Arts. Her work has been exhibited internationally, including the 2025 exhibition PRESENCE /// ABSENCE in Rome, Porto, and Athens, as well as Discover, a curated platform of NYC Jewelry Week.
