Safe & Sound

Safe & Sound is an exhibition that explores how objects have the capacity to evoke comfort, protection, and a feeling of belonging within a home. Curated by Slow Construct and Leroy Street Studio, the featured architect-makers translate materials of their craft into works that speak to care and security.

Safe & Sound, an exhibition curated by Slow Construct and Leroy Street Studio, aims to explore how objects create a home within spaces. The theme of “Safe & Sound” considers how objects are associated with and evoke feelings of comfort, protection, and belonging within dwellings. While gesturing toward tactility, familiarity, and emotional resonance, the designs become moments of refuge through their expressions of care and rootedness.

The exhibition brings together designers trained in the built environment whose practices extend beyond traditional architectural work into furniture, objects, and material experimentation. The niche community is supported by Slow Construct, a curatorial platform and communications practice dedicated to amplifying the work of architect-makers. Through exhibitions, programs, and editorial storytelling, Slow Construct highlights practices that reinterpret architectural thinking into new forms of making.

Presented in collaboration with Leroy Street Studio, the award-winning New York architecture firm is recognized for integrating a practice deeply rooted in how individuals live within spaces. Spanning vast practices, including architecture, interiors, construction, and community design-build initiatives, LSS uses craft and material expertise as the language between people and the spaces they thrive in. Since its founding in 1995, the studio has cultivated a collaborative environment where professionals work together to design and build with a deep engagement in client narratives and context.

Opening for free and public viewings at Allen Street Gallery, Safe & Sound exemplifies the work of designers who move fluidly between architecture and craftsmanship, inviting a unique spatial sensibility into pieces at the scale of the hand. By foregrounding objects that hold space for comfort and belonging, Safe & Sound invites visitors to reflect on how the built environment extends beyond buildings into the intimate landscapes of everyday life.
