Harry Allen’s Fuse Lamps showcase the alchemy of ceramic production. A cylinder is cast in porcelain and roughly cut into rings, which are then glazed, stacked, and fired at high temperatures in a kiln. The process allows the designer to play with color, texture, and translucence, but it is also very unpredictable. During the firing, the glass melts and the rings fuse together; the structure shifts and the glazes mix. Each unique lamp is snapshot, capturing the movement and magic of making.
