For SHINE, Elise included her lamps covered with mycelium foam, a material she first encountered during a design fellowship with mycelium R&D innovation hub Ecovative where she was exploring alternatives to petroleum based upholstery materials, and then couldn’t resist illuminating the inner amber like visual pattern of the foam within a collection of lighting .
Elise McMahon is a designer, artist and educator living and working in Hudson, New York. McMahon works under the design studio named LikeMindedObjects, creating furniture , lighting and products with a joyful contemporary aesthetic combined with a unique take on creative re-use steeped in material experimentation. McMahon received a BFA from RISD in Furniture Design and an MFA from Parsons New School in Industrial Design where she developed her research practice into global Waste Streams and healthier material practices in manufacturing . McMahon's work has been featured in a variety of exhibitions and publications including Vogue , New York Times , Architectural digest and more .
