The NY11+ Exhibit at the Port Authority Bus Terminal presents an inspiring collection of interior design work from top accredited New York institutions, showcasing the exceptional talent and vision of the next generation of designers. This year’s theme, “Fostering Innovation to Address World Challenges,” highlights student projects that tackle pressing global issues through creative, human-centered design solutions. From sustainability and accessibility to technology and community resilience, these forward-thinking works reflect the transformative potential of interior design in shaping a better future.
Now in its 27th year, NY11+ is a nonprofit coalition of New York State educational institutions offering BFA and MFA programs in interior design. The organization is dedicated to promoting public awareness of the power of interior design and its societal impact. The exhibit, prominently displayed in the South Tower of the Port Authority at 40th Street and 9th Avenue, is free and open to the public through the end of April.
In conjunction with the exhibit, NY11+ will host a special United Nations Luncheon on April 21st from 12:00 to 3:00 PM in celebration of World Creativity and Innovation Day, an official United Nations observance. Held at the UN Headquarters, the luncheon will honor influential leaders in design, architecture, education, and innovation. It will also feature presentations by select NY11+ students and special guests, including representatives from global design firms, nonprofit organizations, and private sector partners—all committed to using design as a force for social impact.
This dual celebration underscores NY11+’s mission to amplify student voices, strengthen academia-industry partnerships, and advocate for the critical role of interior design in addressing global challenges. Together, the luncheon and exhibit offer a rare platform for emerging designers to engage with thought leaders, policymakers, and creatives from around the world.
By uniting academic excellence with public engagement, NY11+ continues to position design not only as an aesthetic discipline but also as a catalyst for change—demonstrating that the spaces we shape can, in turn, shape the future.
