MSCHF will debut its first furniture collection, developed in collaboration with AMG Mercedes. Titled Not For Automotive Use, the collection repurposes individual AMG car parts as components in furniture design objects. MSCHF’s Greenpoint studio will open for a three-day showroom presentation, with a public launch on Thursday evening, followed by viewings by appointment only on Friday and Saturday.
MSCHF’s practice is rooted in liberally sampling from all sources, expanding the concept of the readymade to encompass broader cultural phenomena. In this collection, the collective deconstructs luxury vehicles as a form of design process, paying homage to Achille Castiglioni, the trickster god of found-object furniture creation. High-performance technical parts are reimagined and transformed into entirely new functions, resulting in objects that reflect the wit and irreverence that define MSCHF’s creative ethos.
This presentation also marks the first time MSCHF’s studio—located in Greenpoint, across from McCarren Skatepark—will be open to the public. Not For Automotive Use was born in this very workshop and is displayed in its natural environment.
