Join JG Neukomm Architecture and The Dermot Company for an exclusive tour of 220 East 72nd Street, showcasing the transformation of an Upper East Side residential building with a modernized lobby, new social spaces, and roof deck. Following the tour, a panel discussion moderated by writer and curator Adrian Madlener will explore the creative and technical challenges of renovating and enhancing a property of this size in New York City. Drinks and light refreshments will be provided, and guests are welcome to enjoy the reimagined rooftop.
Located on the Upper East Side, this luxury residential project highlights adaptive reuse as a strategic approach to creating new value in existing buildings—at a fraction of the cost of new construction—and as a method of reflecting history, context, and culture in architecture. Come learn about JGNA’s process, which combines strategic zoning analysis, technical expertise, and sophisticated design in a holistic rethinking of spaces to better serve both residents and the surrounding neighborhood.
Led by Jean-Gabriel Neukomm, the tour will explore the building’s dramatic revitalization, including how its aesthetic connects to the rich, ornate sensibility of the Upper East Side. Notable changes include the creation of a penthouse amenity lounge with new picture windows that enhance natural light and views, the transformation of a previously mechanical roof deck into a vibrant social space, and the reconfiguration of apartment layouts from 145 units to 154 thoughtfully designed, family-friendly residences.
Following the tour, a moderated panel discussion will delve into the challenges and opportunities of adaptive reuse in New York City. Moderated by writer and curator Adrian Madlener, the conversation will highlight how JGNA worked with The Dermot Company, creating interventions that harmonize these challenges with serene, hand-crafted design to create innovative spaces with a luxury sensibility. Industry experts will discuss:
- Balancing historic preservation with modern luxury demands
- The sustainability benefits of renovation versus new construction
- Navigating the technical and zoning complexities of working within existing structures
Light refreshments and drinks will be served. This event offers a valuable opportunity for architects, designers, developers, and enthusiasts to network and gain insights into the future of adaptive reuse in high-density urban environments. RSVP is required, and attendance is limited to 30 guests. To RSVP please email [email protected].
Please note JGNA will respond to RSVPs as they come in, and a message will be sent by May 13th to confirm your place in the program.
