Johnnie Walker Blue Label Brings Ultra to NYCxDESIGN
For the first time, Johnnie Walker—the world’s leading Scotch whisky—is bringing its spirit of innovation to NYCxDESIGN with a special exhibition entitled OUT OF THE BLUE: Glass, Craft, and the Future of Johnnie Walker Blue Label. The exhibition celebrates Johnnie Walker Blue Label Ultra, a groundbreaking new product that represents the pinnacle of innovation and craftsmanship.
Weighing just 180g, Ultra is the world’s lightest whisky bottle. Developed by Diageo’s design team, this lighter, lower-carbon bottle embodies the future of luxury packaging—fusing sustainability with exceptional craftsmanship.
To celebrate Ultra’s North American launch, the brand has partnered with leading artists and designers to explore the future of luxury design and sustainable innovation. Commissioned creatives Amber Cowan, Objects of Common Interest, and Scott Newlin—each known for their distinctive contributions to contemporary design and material exploration—will present bespoke pieces inspired by the open-source, patented glass innovation behind Blue Label Ultra. These works will range from drinking vessels and artistic interpretations to groundbreaking applications of lightweight glass.
Ultra Works will also highlight the brand’s rich history of innovation and artistic collaboration, showcasing never-before-seen pieces by Fnnch, b-havior, Gustavo Sousa, and others.
Programming throughout the exhibition will explore the intersection of art and commerce, including:
- Friday, May 16, 4–6 PM: What is GOOD Design?
- Saturday, May 17, 3–5 PM: Brand as Patron: Supporting the Arts Through Impactful Brand Collaborations
- Monday, May 19, 4–5 PM: Please Design Responsibly
Join Johnnie Walker for this bold exploration of design, sustainability, and the future of luxury.
