Join us for a panel and conversation at the intersection of trans expression and good design. This event will feature a short presentation followed by a panel discussion with three leading trans designers from diverse backgrounds:
- Sloan Leo Cowan (they/he), Founder & CEO of FLOX Studio, is a nationally renowned community designer, facilitator, and artist. They partner with clients like The New School and Fondation Chanel to explore the question, “How will we move forward together?”
- Stuart Getty (they) is a published author (How to They/Them), Senior Design Director at global design consultancy IDEO, and a leader of IDEO’s Inclusive Design Collective.
- Joey Zeledón (he/they/she) is an award-winning furniture and product designer, and the author of the article “Design is Trans,” which explores how the design process can serve as a vehicle for self-discovery.
- The conversation will be moderated by Jaime Derringer (she), Co-Founder and Head of Brand at TRAME, and Strategic Advisor at Design Milk.
This event is part of Flood the Zone, a curated talk series by gallerist Jean Lin, presented during the Shelter Design Fair by Afternoon Light. Rather than shying away from challenging conversations, Flood the Zone embraces future-facing analysis and shared knowledge to foster open dialogue. Join us as industry and cultural leaders explore how creative voices can become tools for positive disruption.
Shelter by Afternoon Light is Design Week’s newest market and annual fair, created to foster connection in changing times. Featuring projects and products from an exclusive roster of brands and creatives in furniture, art, and decoration, Shelter is a three-day gathering for A&D professionals and design lovers to celebrate what’s new now.
