The Urban Conga, an award-winning multidisciplinary design studio led by Ryan Swanson and Maeghann Coleman, AIA, is hosting an open studio. The studio focuses on sparking community interaction and social activity through open-ended play design. Their work encourages people to consider the value of play beyond the playground, and how creating more multigenerational play opportunities everywhere can dramatically impact our daily lives.
At the studio, experience firsthand how play methodologies are deeply embedded in their practice—from the community-driven design process to the final spatial intervention. Engage with some of their work as well as their co-design methods. Come enjoy drinks and light bites, and learn how The Urban Conga collaborates with communities to create inclusive, multiscale spatial opportunities that transform once-overlooked or underutilized situations into stimulating creative outlets—spaces that evoke our innate drive to discover, explore, and empathize with others.
Through this work, they have collaborated worldwide with municipal agencies, communities, institutions, private businesses, NGOs, and more—delivering a wide variety of projects, including multiscale spatial interventions, public spaces, temporary activations, workshops, development plans, and public policy recommendations.
