The first retrospective of the artist’s two decades of world-building installations, the exhibition showcases Woolfalk’s ambitious fictional narrative of an imagined race of women known as “Empathics.” Woolfalk has created for the Empathics’ their own distinctive visual imagery, symbolism, and folklore, which reflect her investigations of African, African American, Japanese, European, and Brazilian art, craft, and storytelling. In this parable told through garment-based sculptures, video, paintings, works on paper, and performances, cultures mix, clash, and are ultimately transformed through shared understanding.

MUJI is proud to present the work of renowned miniature photographer and mitate artist Tatsuya Tanaka in the ‘small MUJI’ exhibition, making its debut in the United States at NYCxDESIGN. The exhibition will be on display at MUJI’s flagship location at 575 Fifth Avenue beginning Friday, May 16.
In 1929, Irish designer Eileen Gray created E.1027 on the sun-soaked Côte d'Azur – a bold and hidden gem of avant-garde architecture. This striking house was meant to be a personal refuge.
But when the legendary architect Le Corbusier stumbled upon it, fascination turned to obsession. He covered its walls with his murals, completely disregarding Gray's wishes and her vision. His defiant act ignited a battle for creative control, with Gray demanding restitution for the destruction of her work, He ignored her wishes and instead built his famous Cabanon house directly behind E.1027.
E.1027 – Eileen Gray and the House By the Sea is an unusual hybrid docu-fiction film that tells a story about the power of one woman’s creative expression and a man’s desire to control it.

On May 16, Space Theory will debut its first street-level retail showroom in Dumbo, Brooklyn, showcasing its streamlined system kitchens. The 8,000-square-foot flagship showroom, located in the iconic Stable Building, will also feature a dedicated preview space for sister brand Henrybuilt, which will move into the upstairs space this fall.
