Creativity has become one of the most important skills for all professionals, but what does it mean? Is it enough?

Join Istituto Europeo di Design alumni at Salotto to talk about which values and ethical approaches designers should have to face
the world’s complexity.

Creativity has become one of the most important skills for all professionals, but what does it mean? How can we improve the world we live in through creativity? Can you learn to be creative? And is it enough? Join IED at Salotto to talk about which values and ethical approaches designers should have to face the world’s complexity.

IED – Istituto Europeo di Design, a Higher Education Network in the creative field, organizes an event on May 22nd with a conversation with a selection of its remarkable alumni based in NYC sharing their personal vision on their educational background in Italy, and discuss how their knowledge has been making a difference while working on the NYC creative industry.

The Brooklyn studio Salotto, home of Italian excellence and innovation in the arts and design, will host this event in which former students will talk with Riccardo Balbo, IED Academic Director. A moment to observe what is around us, share good practices and bring new vision on today’s global challenges.

Artist Emiliano Ponzi, design and managing director at Design Group Italia Gabriel Zangari, Artemide’s head of marketing in North America Sophie Herslow and founder and creative director at Controvento Gabriele Chiave will discuss the needs of today’s market and how design education schools in Europe are adapting their curriculums to ask the right questions and find meaningful solutions for common goods.

The increasing complexity and interconnection of the world requires new ways of thinking and update constantly your skills. Creativity, in this context, arises as a response to imagining a more equitable, sustainable, inclusive future, in which shared resources are cultivated, protected, and accessible to all. But, to do so, it is only possible with a strong set of values and ethical commitment.

In this sense, IED’s mission relies on understanding that transformation only comes from caring, observing, questioning and offering solutions to society’s needs. Specialized in Design, Fashion, Communication and Management, Arts and Restoration and Visual Arts, IED is an inclusive and transdisciplinary school that uses design as a universal language for change. Born in Milano in 1966, it is now based in Italy, Spain and Brazil and each year teaches more than 10.000 students from around the world.

Join us to understand how diverse perspectives on understanding the world that surrounds us can bring new opportunities in today’s creative fields. In this sense, the Culture of Italian Design brought a new approach and offered a precise mindset to interpret contemporaneity.

The talk will be followed with a networking session with a cocktail.
